Azienda "Casale li Monaci"
The property originally consisted of over 160 hectares and was owned by the Murdaca Family, believed to have lived in the area since the early 1800's and where the ancestral Palatial home still exists and sits on a hillside with spectacular views of the Jonian sea and surrounding Aspromonte mountains, the property became one of the first of the early Condojanni, Sant'Ilario Vineyards, Olive trees and sheep farming area, which supplied the county with cheeses, olive oil and quality wines.
During this time the property was also the location of the local Franciscan Monastery "li Monaci" whose ruins are still maintained as a historical site and within hiking distance sits the Locride archaeological museum (Locroi Epizephyroi) and digs' identifying our ancestral roots of the Magna Grecia.
Portions of the property were severed and sold to the local gentry and Maremonte was purchased by Anthony Reale.
A Canadian businessman who was born in the region and left at the age of 9 only to rediscover its beauty and rural charm on returning for a visit with his father of 91 after an absence of 55 years the entire property was completely renovated preserving its historical values and provide a unique vitivinicola and agriturismo experience.
Maremonte sits on 25 acres with spectacular views of the Jonian Sea and unobstructed views of the surrounding hillsides.
Dining at our restaurant "Al Vigneto", known for its Calabrian cuisine created from our own fresh organically grown and seasonal produce and our own raised pork, chicken, lamb and beef.
The views and quiet location where you can watch the sheep graze in the meadow, make Maremonte a special place for romantic getaways, small receptions, corporate dinners or family vacations.
Maremonte also offers a small health spa where you can relax in our 6 person whirlpool, indulge in a sauna and a relaxing Massage.
The buildings are nestled among almond trees, fig trees as well as newly planted gardens and landscaping of all imaginable fruit trees that grace and add beauty to what used to be farmland.
The property has not abandoned its history and still produces high quality wines appreciated locally and internationally.
